Nick Katsanevas passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 29, 2012. He was born in Kampous, Crete, Greece to Michael and Maria Katsanevas on May 25, 1941. Nick, along with his family, immigrated to SLC at 13 years old.
Nick and his brother in-law, John Katzourakis, founded the first Crown Burgers in 1978. He loved his work. He was always greeting customers and making them feel at home. He established many great friendships with his customers and vendors. He was known to children and adults as "Uncle Nick" and was always ready to give them ice cream cones. He was a tough boss but well respected by his loyal employees, which there were many throughout the years. He expected perfection and wouldn't settle for anything less.
He loved talking business and discussing the current sports book spread on the games. He loved to drink his Crown Royal with his friends Bill Gillman and Andy Kithas. He also enjoyed having a cigarette, while working in his garden, with his good friend Spiro Papadakis. Nick looked forward to his morning coffees, Saturday breakfasts, and weekend "horta" pickings with his siblings. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, particularly Michael M., Jim M., and John S.
Nick is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Michael (Elizabeth), daughter Alexandria, and grandson, Nicholas. He is also survived by his siblings George in Crete, Greece, Kaliope Sargetakis, Louie, Manuel (Alma), Irene (Dean) Kases in MO, Rita (John) Klonizos, Steve (Georgia), and Rula (John) Katzourakis and many nieces and nephews.
Nick is preceded in death by his parents and his brother James.
Nick will be remembered for his hard work ethic, abundance of energy, and his hospitality.
